This is part of a leaflet that was provided for visitors during the recent tower open day in July, £22 were raised for church funds. Frank Beech created the leaflet and the drawing of St. Michael's Tower.
106 Steps Tower Roof
Although the tower is in the bottom of a valley Stone has many surprises when viewed from above. Things are not always where you expect them to be.
74 Steps Bell Chamber
The bells are hung in a wooden frame made from timbers which appear to have been recycled from a frame which contained much larger bells and is to a pattern which is known as "four by two". This is not a very stable arrangement. The bells are hung anti-clockwise, which is opposite to normal.
49 Steps Clock Chamber
The clock was started on Ascension Day 14th May1896. It is controlled by the three-pin type of escapement. This is the simplified version of the escapement designed for use on "Big Ben". The chimes are Cambridge chimes or better known as Westminster.
24 Steps Ringing Room
This is the ringer's room and the bells are rung from here. On the walls you will see records of past achievements and photographs, and also examples of our tunes known as methods.
West Door to Church
To the left through the main west door is the door at the bottom of the spiral staircase, which goes right to the top of the tower.
